publicabsolutely killer bass solo (more like a bass break I guess) here
repeats the same motif but its totally locked in with the drums and feels incredible
...
publicI've listened to this song a lot while traveling, mostly because the lyrics are kind of about it.
Far Away is not super similar to this song musically, but it evokes the same feeling of wanting to explore somewhere new. I also listen to it a lot while travelling

publicI love, love love the opening of this song - just bass and voice, and the bass plays such a lovely counterpoint to the vocals. Reminiscent of the best of Esperanza Spalding -
Samba Em Preludio comes to mind, which also opens with just bass and voice before guitar and percussion come in

publicOnly here do the drums break into a standard rock beat. The bass begins to play root notes. Finally breaking into a rock rhythm creates this triumphant feeling, fitting after such a long buildup.
...
publicHere the song enters a bridge like section, the chords change slightly, a flute enters with a new melody, the bass begins to play more traditionally, and some light percussion begins, mostly cymbals.

publicGreat bass fill here too

publictasteful lil #bass lick here. starts by quoting the melody

publicI quite like the #bass part on this - feels almost baroque?
...
publicThe lyrics here reference the chord progression used in the song - "4 7 3 6 2 5 1 to put my mind at ease" refer to the chords used in the song.
The lyrics immediately before this are "Someone wrote this song before, and I could tell you where it's from" - which makes sense, because they're the chords to
Autumn Leaves, a well known jazz standard.
Weirdly self referential/meta lyrics!
...
publicThe intro riff here is “recontextualized” when the drums come in - you count the riff one way before it comes in and differently after. Specifically you count the one on a different note.

publicI've listened to a few renditions of this song (Bill Evan's is pretty nice -
Beautiful Love), and this is my favorite so far. What's strange however is that all of these covers are piano or guitar trios, sometimes with both (like Anita O Day's version -
Beautiful Love).
I wanted to hear a saxophone or trumpet solo over these changes but couldn't find anything.
Taking a cursory look at Youtube (searching "Beautiful Love Saxophone Solo"), all of the results seem to be instructional (e.g. "easy beginner beautiful love saxophone solo"). Maybe these changes are too easy or boring for a serious sax player?

publicThis song's structure is quite interesting - the chords don't change at all throughout the song, save for some slight deviations in the middle.
For the first half of the song, there aren't any drums, and the #bass plays quite melodically - in a higher range, and it doesn't outline the root notes very strictly.

publicThis is simply one of my favorite songs of all time, it fills me with feelings of peace and tranquility, but also a feeling of yearning and sadness. It's bittersweet.
